PRELUDE:  (Instrumental)

Klaus Mueller - Musical Director/Organist

Walter Williams - Drummer

...”Come, Thou long expected Jesus" #002

Come, Thou long expected Jesus

Born to set Thy people free;

From our fears and sins release us

Let us find rest in Thee

Israel’s strength and consolation

Hope of all the earth Thou art

Dear desire of every nation

Joy of every long heart.

Born Thy people to deliver

Born a child and yet a King

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;

By Thine all sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

By Thine all sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Go, tell it on the mountain,

over the hills and everywhere.

Go, tell it on the mountain

that Jesus Christ is born.

1. While shepherds kept their watching

o'er silent flocks by night,

behold throughout the heavens

there shone a holy light.

Go, tell it on the mountain,

over the hills and everywhere.

Go, tell it on the mountain

that Jesus Christ is born.

2. The shepherds feared and trembled,

when lo! above the earth,

rang out the angel chorus

that hailed the Savior's birth.

Go, tell it on the mountain,

over the hills and everywhere.

Go, tell it on the mountain

that Jesus Christ is born.

3. Down in a lowly manger

the humble Christ was born,

and God sent us salvation

that blessed Christmas morn.

Go, tell it on the mountain,

over the hills and everywhere.

Go, tell it on the mountain

that Jesus Christ is born.

ADVENT LIGHTING OF THE

CANDLE OF JOY :

......................................... "Luke 2: 9 -10"

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people

OPENING PRAYER:.....

.......................Rev. Charles Mayhew

CALL TO WORSHIP:....,Isaiah 12

Leader: Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and will not be afraid.

People: For the Lord God is my strength and my might, and my might, and has become
my salvation.

Leader: With joy you will give thanks to the Lord and call on God’s name.

People: We will sing you our praises, O God, for you have done glorious things.

Leader: Let us worship God!

ALL: We here at UHPC have come to

worship God!

HYMN 1:.."Good Christian Friends, Rejoice" #028

PRAYER FOR CONFESSION:. (In Unison)

Source of salvation, what shall we do? Our lives are unworthy of the goodness you
offer. We complain of our condition when our wants go unnoticed. Contentment eludes us, since when we have plenty, we still yearn for more. Millions face hunger, while we fret over abundance. Through Christ forgive us yet grant us no peace until we share our bread with the hungry and our homes with those who lack shelter.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

Leader: Hear the good news! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin and be alive to all that is good. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Glory to God. Amen.

GLORIA PATRI: .......................(In Unison)

Glory be to Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen. Amen.

PASSING THE PEACE:

Leader: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.

People: And peace be with you also.

“ I’VE GOT PEACE LIKE RIVER”.

I've got PEACE like a river (3Xs) in my soul - repeat

I've got JOY like a fountain(3Xs) in my soul - repeat
I've got LOVE like an ocean(3Xs) in my soul- repeat

QUOTE:........................................Walter Williams

SONG FOR ILLUMINATION:

..........................."Open Our Eyes"

Open our eyes, Lord,
we want to see Jesus,
to reach out and touch him,
and say that we love him.

Open our ears, Lord,
and help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord,
we want to see Jesus.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:,,(In Unison)

God our helper, show us your ways and teach us your paths. By your Holy Spirit, open our minds that we may be led in your truth and taught your will. Then may we praise you by listening to your Word and by obeying it, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN:..Joy to the World" #040

1. Joy to the world, the Lord is come:

Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

2. Joy to the world, the Savior reigns:

Let us our songs employ;

While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

3. No more let sins and sorrows grow,

Nor thorns infest the ground;

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found,

Far as the curse is found,

Far as, far as, the curse is found.

4. He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders, wonders, of His love.

HYMN 1:.."Good Christian Friends,                             Rejoice” #028

1. Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

give ye heed to what we say:

Jesus Christ was born today.

Ox and ass before him bow,

and he is in the manger now.

Christ is born today!

Christ is born today!

2. Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

now ye hear of endless bliss:

Jesus Christ was born for this!

He has opened heaven's door,

and we are blest forevermore.

Christ was born for this!

Christ was born for this!

3. Good Christian friends, rejoice

with heart and soul and voice;

now ye need not fear the grave:

Jesus Christ was born to save!

Calls you one and calls you all

to gain his everlasting hall.

Christ was born to save!

Christ was born to save!

---------------------------------------------------------HYMN 2:...."It Came Upon the Midnight Clear" #038

1. It came upon the midnight clear,

that glorious song of old,

from angels bending near the earth

to touch their harps of gold:

"Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven's all-gracious King." The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.

2. Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled,

and still their heavenly music floats

o'er all the weary world;

above its sad and lowly plains,

they bend on hovering wing,

and ever o'er its Babel sounds

the blessed angels sing.

3. And ye, beneath life's crushing load, whose forms are bending low,

who toil along the climbing way

with painful steps and slow,

look now! for glad and golden hours

come swiftly on the wing.

O rest beside the weary road,

and hear the angels sing!

4. For lo! the days are hastening on,

by prophet seen of old,

when with the ever-circling years

shall come the time foretold

when peace shall over all the earth

its ancient splendors fling,

and the whole world send back the song which now the angels sing.
